I’ve made peace with the fact that LLW is going to break my heart a long time ago. But what I didn’t expect or rather, prayed wouldn’t happen, is that I would lose interest in it around ep. 22. The reason being the 2nd lead hag. So, because I can not possibly waste my time on terrible episodes, I will write the episodes that i like, and then do mini (like, very minuscule) recaps about the episodes I don’t like, most of which happen 25 onwards. As for Legend of Lu Zhen, the recaps are coming, I promise.
Xue Wu is taken out of the prison by An De Wang, who tells Xue Wu to wear something pretty. An De Wang tells the soldiers to release the prisoners, since Si Ye is fine, the arrow didn’t harm him. Si Ye wants Xue Wu to come and visit him. Xiao Dong looks sad when he realizes that Si Ye likes Xue Wu.
Xue Wu walks into the tent, and Si Ye is sitting on the bed. He grabs her and says, “I want you…” Xue Wu pushes him away, outraged, but on second look she realizes that something is very wrong. It turns out that the poisoned arrow has weakened Si Ye greatly.
An De Wang and others come in, revealing to Xue Wu that SI Ye’s poison has no cure, but they had to lie to the camp so as to not affect the soldiers spirits or scare anyone with Si Ye’s condition. They all believe that Xue Wu can heal Si Ye but Xue Wu says she doesn’t really know anything, what she can do is make Si Ye comfortable.
Xue Wu takes care of Si Ye through the night, and which Si Ye gets cold, she lies next to him. The next morning, when Si Ye wakes up, he hugs her closer.
On the Zhou Kingdom side of things, the Queen is worried for her King, who has enemies within the court, Yu Wen Hu. Luckily, there were able to get additional soldiers from her father, otherwise, the King would not be able to invade Qi. Zhou King comes in at that moment and thanks his queen for figuring everything out and rescuing him. Yu Wen Yong tells everyone that it’s time to invade Qi, with Si Ye out of the way. Even though spies say that Si Ye is healthy and spends all his day with his new concubine Yang Xue Wu (Yu Wen Yong looks momentarily unsettled).
Yu Wen Yong smiles and says that SI Ye is acting for his troops, in reality, Si Ye is a dead man walking. With Si Ye out of the way, Yu Wen Yong can go invade Luo Yang, a major city of Qi. After conquering Luo Yang, Yu Wen Yong can take down city of Ye, the Capital and all of Qi.
There are lots of moments of cute in this episode, such as Xue Wu making a soup for SI Ye. Who takes a sip, tries to hide his grimace and swallowing it manfully. Xue Wu takes a sip and spits it out, she’s a terrible cook.
Xue Wu brings out two eggs, saying that she didn’t want to show them originally because they’re plain. She had drawn faces on them, causing Si Ye to laugh. Xue Wu genuinely wishes that Si Ye would get better.
New comes from the border that Zhou will attack Luo Yang city, which will give easy access to the capital if it falls. Si Ye is about to issue a call for arms when the Crown Prince of Qi, Gao Wei shows up. Xue Wu asks why everyone looks so worried and it turns out that while the Crown Prince isn’t a bad person, he is surrounded by bad people like Zhu Tai Pu. Gao Wei is eager to prove himself in battle and orders Si Ye to hand over all military power to him. Even after people beg the Crown Prince Gao Wei not to, with the urgings of Zhu Tai Pu, the crown prince rides away with the whole army, leaving only 500 people to Si Ye. Si Ye collapses.
Si Ye’s condition is going from bad to worse. The poison has spread all over his body, he has about 5 more days to live. Xue Wu is worried and remembers all the good things Si Ye has done for her. Xue Wu remembers the token Yu Wen Yong given to her and telling her to visit him in Zhou. She kisses Si Ye and promises to help him.
The Crown Prince is talking with Tai Pu, The crown prince reasons that since he has 60,000 in troops and since the enemy should have about 50,000 (he doesn’t know about Yu Wen Yong’s reinforcements yet), Gao Wei should win the war. Tai Pu is worried about Xue Wu, he can’t predict her past or future. The Crown Prince scoffs and says that he doesn’t really believe that Xue Wu is the Heavenly Maiden.
Xue Wu sneaks out of camp and finds Xiao Dong, she tells him that she needs him to help her steal the antidote for Si Ye’s poison. They travel to Zhou. Xue Wu sends a letter back to camp telling An De Wang what she’s done. Xue Wu shows a guard the trinket Yu Wen Yong as given her and they are immediately taken to the ship where Yu Wen Yong is holding court.
Xue Wu gets dressed up in Zhou Style, while Xiao Dong is told to wait in a side room. Xue Wu and Xiao Dong exchange glances before they part.
Xue Wu meets the King of Zhou, Yu Wen Yong. He remarks, “I can’t believe that the little girl in the village, dressed in our kingdom’s style is actually a beauty” Xue Wu replies, “I can’t believe that the homeless A Guai, is the Emperor” Yu Wen Yong surmises that because Xue Wu is here, it means Si Ye is dying.
Since Si Ye is the enemy, Yu Wen Yong will not give Xue Wu the antidote. Xue Wu tells Yu Wen Yong taht she didn’t come her to find “Yu Wen Yong” but her good friend “A Guai” His smirky masks falls momentarily as he tells every person to leave the room.
“”You want A Guai to repay you” Xue Wu begs him, “But You know I am Yu Wen Yong.” Xue Wu says that she’s seen his goodness at the village, his kindness, and his patience with kids. Yu Wen Yong, with his back turned, smiles briefly and sadly.
His face hardens and he says that he was lying, he had to protect himself when he was in that village? He’s been lying all along, he’s been using her. Xue Wu says, “I know, but I know that the person you really are, isn’t bad at all.”
Yu Wen Yong tells Xue Wu that he and Lan Ling Wang (Si Ye) are fated mortal enemies, one will eventually eat the other.
Yu Wen Yong can promise Xue Wu anything in the world, but the one thing he can’t give her is the antidote. The ship moves and Xue Wu realizes it and panics. She needs to get off. Yu Wen Yong smiles and says, “haven’t you heard the legendary saying: he who posses the Heavenly Maiden, possesses the world?” He smirks, “If I have you, I will have the world”
Xue Wu says that he’s been using her since the day she has met him. He says yes, of course. Why do you think he’s still alive? He has to be calculating, otherwise how could he become the king?
Yu Wen Yong tells Xue Wu that he can help her fullfill her dream of helping all the people she wants. She asks why, he has so many people capable of helping him. Yu Wen Yong replies that the current ruler of Zhou may be him but the person who controls the kingdom is Da Zhong Zai, Yu Wen Hu. This excursion/invasion was done by Yu Wen Yong secretly. Xue Wu remembers her grandmother’s prediction, that Yu Wen Yong and Yu Wen Hu will eventually go head to head and one will devour the other.
Xue Wu says that she’ll help him, if Yu Wen Yong gives her the antidote. Yu Wen Yong slams the table in anger, and says that he will save anyone in the world, but for Si Ye. Xue Wu will stay in Zhou and become Zhou’s Heavenly Maiden. He tells the guards to bring Xue Wu outside so that she can attend the King’s Address to the Troops.
He takes/drags Xue Wu out in front of the troops and uses her presence to rile the troops into a confident frenzy.
Takeaway from this episode – Yu Wen Yong’s smirk and the eyes. His mask of smirky cockiness falls whenever Xue Wu calls him A Guai, and the smile of sadness was so well done that I can’t help but find him better than LLW. That being said watching this second time around, Xue Wu does become marginally more grinding for me. Her belief of goodness in Yu Wen Yong is adorable, even he kind of thinks so, but not practically. In fact nothing in this show she does is practical. But hey, as long as she gets to interact with Yu Wen Yong, I have no complaints.
